Sexual harassment and gender discrimination can affect anyone, regardless of gender, in New Jersey and all across the country. In a recent court filing in Galveston, Texas, a woman filed suit alleging her supervisor had brought about a wrongful termination because she reported incidents of harassment to her corporate office.
The company in question is Zachry Industrial Inc. The suit was filed in Federal court in September. In the filing, it was alleged the company had engaged in various practices that led to willful, intentional and unlawful discrimination and the company then retaliated on the basis of the woman's sex and race. Other charges may be pending in the case and the woman has asked for a jury trial.
The plaintiff subsequently lost her position as a safety compliance supervisor. She had been holding that job since May 2010. In her filing, she asserts the company did not do enough to protect her against coworkers who were harassing her verbally and with improper touching. She also alleges when she reported the events to corporate, her supervisor retaliated. She maintains that race discrimination may have played a part in her termination as well.
Wrongful termination can happen anywhere. For those living in New Jersey, a termination based on age or race is cause for legal action. You have rights and with the assistance of an experienced litigator and appeals attorney you may be able to turn your misfortune around. You do not have to stand by and allow yourself to become the victim of discrimination.
